The road from Chichester to Portsmouth and the South Coast railway pass through the parish. The church of SS. Peter and Mary is a small building of the Early English period, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles and a small wooden belfry at the west end. The register dates from the year 1567. The living is a rectory, gross yearly value \u00a3250 with glebe producing \u00a350, in the gift of the Lord Chancellor and held, since 1875, by the Rev. Robert Baker M.A. of Corpus Christi college, Cambridge, who resides at West Gate, Chichester. Here is a Primitive Methodist chapel. The poor&#8217;s land produces \u00a31 yearly, which is distributed in money; Levin&#8217;s charity of \u00a33 10s. 2d. per anuum, derived from a sum of \u00a3177 in Consols, is for clothing. The principal landowners are Mrs. Smith, of Salt Hill Park and E. Stanford esq. J.P. who is lord of the manor. The soil is rich loam; subsoil, gravel. The chief crops are wheat, barley and oats. The area is 610 acres; rateable value, \u00a32,144; and the population in 1881 was 316.<\/p>\n<p>Parish Clerk, William Robbins<\/p>\n<p>POST OFFICE.- Miss Mercy Standing, postmistress.
