{"id":2,"date":"2020-03-28T19:58:03","date_gmt":"2020-03-28T19:58:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dands.uk\/wp\/pci\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2025-04-07T14:30:47","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T14:30:47","slug":"how-the-list-started","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.dands.uk\/pci\/how-the-list-started\/","title":{"rendered":"How the list started"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I saw a reference in the &#8220;Family Tree&#8221; magazine to a book called &#8220;The Parish Clerk&#8221;, by PH Ditchfield (Metheun, London 1907), which contained quite a lot of information about individual Parish Clerks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of my ancestors was a Parish Clerk, so I ordered the book from the library to see if my forebear was mentioned and to get some background information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alas my ancestor was not included, but there was so much other information and people mentioned by name, that it seemed a good idea to index the names and places mentioned, so as to share this valuable &#8220;flesh on the bone&#8221; resource.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Parish Clerk Index was started and includes references from many other sources &#8211; new references are always welcome!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The quality of the information may be variable, from a detailed, amusing or tragic story, to just a passing reference and all are intended to be used as pointers to the original source material to provide &#8220;flesh on the bones&#8221; to your research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please see the &#8220;bibliography&#8221; page for a link to a copy of this book.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I saw a reference in the &#8220;Family Tree&#8221; magazine to a book called &#8220;The Parish Clerk&#8221;, by PH Ditchfield (Metheun, London 1907), which contained quite a lot of information about individual Parish Clerks.
