| Description | A signal was frozen in the clear position and passed by a coal train that was due to be shunted into a siding to allow the passage of an express train. After the coal train was stopped by the signalman, it was run into by the following express train, the Flying Scotsman. This was then subsequently hit by the Kings Cross to Leeds express train. |
