Cause of Accident Collision on level crossing
Description The 11.30 a.m. Manchester to Euston express running at about 75 miles per hour collided with a heavy road transporter carrying a 120-ton transformer over the automatic crossing. The transporter had grounded on the crossing. Contrary to the warning signs, the signalman had not been told of the large, slow-moving load travelling over the crossing.
