Description | The 8.20 p.m. express passenger train, Perth to London, running under clear signals, traversed the junction crossover from the up fast to the up slow at excessive speed. The engine became derailed and six of the leading seven coaches were piled up in rear of it, destroyed and overturned into a field below the line. Five of the casualties were railway employees, members of the Royal Train dining car staff travelling home. Five of the passengers died later of their injuries. |
