Accidents

| Wednesday, 10th May 1848, p.m. | 6 | 13 | Collison | 12 o’clock express from Exeter ran into a cattle truck and horse box that had been pushed foul of the mainline by two porters so that they could use the turntable, despite the signal showing the express was due. | Link to RFA site | |
| Saturday, 27th April 1872, 8.45 p.m. | 1 | 0 | Struck by train | Victim was taking a shortcut home along the railway track and it was believed that he had stepped out of the way to avoid an approaching train into the path of another train from the other direction. | Link to RFA site |  |
| Tuesday, 5th March 1889, 9:15 pm | 1 | 0 | Struck by train | Victim was travelling from Wantage to Swindon. When the train arrived at Shrivenham. he mistakenly got off the train. When he then tried to rejoin the moving train, he slipped down between the footboard and the carriages. The Station Master had tried unsuccessfully to drag him back onto the platform but failed and so he was run over by the train and died shortly afterwards. | Link to RFA site | |
| Tuesday, 20th March 1900 | 1 | 0 | Strruck by train | Victim was working on the main line when he was knocked down by the 2.15 a.m. train from Severn Tunnel Junction station. He was severly injured and taken to the G.W.R. Accident Hospital at New Swindon. He died of his injuries on the following Saturday (24th). | Link to RFA site |  |

| Wednesday, 15th January 1936, 5.24 a.m. | 2 | 28 | Broken drawbar and error by signalman | A goods train became divided and the signalman failed to check for the presence of a tail lamp at the back of the goods train. The following train, from Penzance to London was accepted, the signals cleared and this express sleeper train hit the obstruction at 55mph (90kmh). | Link to RFA site |
